Africa looks at us

Seven African artists. Seven Spanish cities. Seven different visions and one exhibit. The Spanish city acts as the inspiration, protagonist and work setting for a group of creators from the neighbouring continent. The result is displayed in the África.es exhibit at the Círculo de Bellas Artes of Madrid starting tomorrow.

It consists of an initiative with which the Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID, Spanish agency of International Cooperation for Development) promotes creations from Africa by selecting leading photographers who during one week have put together what these cities suggest to them through their spaces, people, situations, etc. This exhibit forms part of the Arte inVisible programme that the Agency has been carrying out since 2005, and it has relied on the collaboration of the Círculo de Bellas Artes of Madrid and Casa África.

Barcelona, Valencia, Sevilla, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Valladolid, Bilbao and Madrid were the laboratories in which the various projects took place, with complete liberty in terms of the theme, technique and format. Each artist is from an African nation, and each was assigned to a Spanish city.
