Our mission is to bring Africa and Spain closer
Through outreach, educational, economic, and cultural activities, we foster mutual understanding and strengthen Hispanic African relations.
Immigration and displacement, the desire to triumph in the world of music, the damaged environment, cults for the deceased or family secrets are some of the topics that inspire the film season with which Casa África participates, one more year, at Womad, which is being held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. A total of thirteen recent film titles that are shot in Africa, directed and portrayed by Africans, and that covers all the genres, from drama to science fiction, musicals or documentaries. The Casa África Womad film season sessions will take place the afternoons of Thursday, November the 11th through Saturday, November the 13th, and the morning of Sunday, November the 14th. They will be shown at the Elder Science and Technology Museum.
Casa África supports the Womad editions that are held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Cáceres. In both cases, the institution focuses on African participation and offers parallel activities that are always related to the neighbouring continent. The institution´s aim in collaborating with this essential cultural event is, once again, to bring Africa and Spain closer together, taking advantage of the special setting of tolerance and multiculturalism that exists during the Womad event in order to favour a meeting between Africans and Spaniards and their mutual awareness.
