Our mission is to bring Africa and Spain closer
Through outreach, educational, economic, and cultural activities, we foster mutual understanding and strengthen Hispanic African relations.
The expansion of jihadism in Africa was the theme chosen by Casa África for the second #ÁfricaEsNoticia conference, which was held today at the organisation’s headquarters. Organised by Casa África, this information day is supported by the Ministry of Defence, through the grant programme for the promotion of Defence Culture of the Higher Centre for National Defence Studies (CESEDEN), and with the collaboration of the Spanish Institute for Strategic Studies (IEEE) and the Elcano Royal Institute.
The initiative aims to put focus on the impact on Africa of the emergence and consolidation of jihadist terrorism, a phenomenon that has turned terrorism with a religious background into a real and serious threat to African security. It has spread from its traditional zones of influence, through specific attacks such as those perpetrated in Paris or Brussels to countries with a greater degree of stability and security, such as Tunisia, the Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Kenya or even Egypt. The event’s opening ceremony was attended by Enrique Hernández Bento, delegate of the government in the Canary Islands, and the general secretary of Casa África, Arianne Hernández, in addition to the conference speakers. Arianne Hernández handed straight over to the first three speakers: Bakary Sambe, Haizam Amirah and General Alfonso García-Vaquero Pradal.
