Our mission is to bring Africa and Spain closer
Through outreach, educational, economic, and cultural activities, we foster mutual understanding and strengthen Hispanic African relations.
Casa África will pass on to the South African people the tributes, condolences and deep appreciation of the Spanish people to Nelson Mandela, who died tonight in Pretoria at 95 years of age. The public diplomacy institution joins the worldwide mourning for the passing of Nelson Mandela and will do so by exerting its work of bringing Africa and Spain closer, in an initiative for citizens who wish to show their solidarity and comfort to the South African people. Therefore, Casa will put together all the messages generated on social networks under the hashtag # SiempreMandela, and forward them in print in a few weeks time to the Spanish Embassy in South Africa, so that they can be passed on to the South African authorities and thus, the South African people.
Because of his death, Casa África has launched a special on their website dedicated to the figure, career and the legacy of African leader and Nobel Peace prize winner. The website (www.casafrica.es/mandela) includes a biography of the charismatic leader, his best quotes and phrases, Casa África's media library's background content related to him together with the internet resources about him.
It will also open up a series of exclusive articles to the public, signed by the journalist José Naranjo, in which the concept of Ubuntu, the women in Mandela's life are reviewed together with, his homes, his colleagues in the anti-apartheid struggle or the films that have been based on him. Casa África's special website which is dedicated to Mandela also includes impressions on the African statesman expressed by Africanists and cultural figures such as Emmanuel Dongala, Blick Bassy, Fatou Diome, Cheikh Hamidou Kane or Alain Mabanckou.
