Our mission is to bring Africa and Spain closer
Through outreach, educational, economic, and cultural activities, we foster mutual understanding and strengthen Hispanic African relations.
The great African festival took place last weekend in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Casa África organised África Vive in the capital of Gran Canaria for that weekend. The initiative, with which the institution has celebrated Africa Day since 2009, filled the Manual Naranjo Sosa Field, the port area and Santa Catalina Park with music, dance, African flavours, marathon runners and football. The objective of their recreational and festive weekend is, as always, to improve knowledge of the neighbouring continent in our country and to once again show that Africa and Spain are increasingly closer.
The main África Vive event took place at Santa Catalina Park yesterday, May 15th, with more than 5,000 people and included African gastronomy, the participation of 600 students from 20 schools on the island in activities related to African cultures, and various workshops for those students.
Ricardo Martínez, the managing director of Casa África, fired the starting gun for the half-marathon of the Foundation of Las Palmas Ports. It was followed by school activities, workshops that were open to the public, a passacaglias, and a performance of African music and dance by Afrocanarias.
This setting was the stage in which Senegal, the winning team of the 2nd África Vive Football 7-a-Side Tournament, and Mauritania, the second-place winner, received their trophies. The Tournament began on April 2nd and it has taken place every weekend since then.
