La modernidad ignorada. Arquitectura moderna de Luanda

Casa África hosts in their halls, from the 23rd October to 5th December2013, the exhibition The ignored modernity. Modern architecture of Luanda, held as part of the 5th International Conference on research in architecture and urbanism, organised by the School of Architecture at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from 23 to 25 October.

The same day of the 23rd, coinciding with the opening of the exhibition, the homonymous book will be launched at Casa África's headquarters.

The exhibition is part of an inter-university research project coordinated by the University of Alcalá, which under a different look at Africa, shared by Angolan, Portuguese and Spanish architects and historians, 'discovers' urban planning and modern architecture in Luanda.

The work done by these professionals was completed in four outcomes:

  1. Computer catalogue of the most representative buildings of the modernity in Luanda.
  2. Interactive website, summary of the project.
  3. Book, which will be presented at Casa África
  4. Exhibition which is now hosted by Casa África and is focused on five aspects of modernity in Luanda: Historical, Urban, Architectural, Specific works, the current and future State.

The work exhibited does not reflect the analysed phenomenon in all its breadth and depth, but the diversity of authors and subjects allows an overview of a fascinating and ignored social and architectural phenomenon.
