Our mission is to bring Africa and Spain closer
Through outreach, educational, economic, and cultural activities, we foster mutual understanding and strengthen Hispanic African relations.
Casa Africa opens the doors of its headquarters in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to everyone on Monday, 9th December to pay a peoples' tribute to Nelson Mandela, who died on Thursday evening 5th December in Johannesburg at the age of 95 .
Those attending this tribute may participate in different events: signing a book of condolences which will be sent to the South African Embassy in Spain, lighting a candle, writing their messages about Mandiba on coloured ribbons posts or even transcribing his most famous quotes.
There will also be African music and dance that comes from the hand of the FAAC (Federation of Africans in the Canary Islands). During the ceremony, Songs for Mandiba will be played and they will also be a reading of selected texts of the South African leader. This will be on Monday, 9th December between 7 and 10 p.m.
On the occasion of Madiba’s death, last Thursday Casa Africa published the Nelson Mandela Special on its website as a tribute to the politician and South African Nobel Peace Prize winner. This is a section dedicated to the figure, history and legacy of the leader and includes an in-depth biography, best quotes, background content from Casa África's media library relating to him and plenty of resources on the Internet about him.
This special also includes a series of exclusive articles, signed by the journalist José Naranjo, in which he looks over the concept of Ubuntu, the women in Mandela's life, his homes, his colleagues in the anti-apartheid struggle or the films that have been based on him. An article by the writer Johari Gautier Carmona Thanks Mandela. has also been published.
Using the hashtag # SiempreMandela Casa África encourages everyone to send their messages of tribute and recognition through social networks, which will be sent to South Africa through its embassy in Spain.
