XXI Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz&Más

Casa África once again collaborates with the International Canarias Jazz & Más Festival, which like every year comes to the Islands with the best international, national and local artists from the world of Jazz. This year, the Festival celebrates its 21st Edition, which shows how consolidated and important it is within the Islands music circuit.

During the five days that the Canarias Jazz & Mas Heineken lasts, which this year is held from the 11th to the 15th July , fifteen first class performers will perform on the stages of the different islands, amongst which we find those that make up La Noche África, sponsored by Casa África, who is still here at this Jazz Festival providing the performances of: the winning groups of the 3rd edition of the Vis A Vis in Ethiopia; the group of the Cameroon singer Blick Bassy; and the group from the Canary Islands Manao according to the following programme:

  • Friday 13th July Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Plaza del Castillo Negro at 20.00h. Noche África with Munit & Jorg, Blick Bassy and Manao
  • Saturday 14th July Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Plaza de Sta Ana at 19.30h. Noche África with Blick Bassy, Munit & Jorg, Ethiocolor and Manao
  • Sunday 15th July Lanzarote. Historic area of Villa de Teguise at 20.00h. Noche África with Munit & Jorg and Blick Bassy

The entrance is available to all and is free.

The groups Munit & Jörg and Ethiocolor were the winners of the Ethiopian vis a vis, in its third edition, a meeting sponsored by Casa África between African musicians and Spanish producers to improve awareness of African music internationally, encouraging the participation of African musicians on Spanish platforms. This year it was carried out in Ethiopia, which as well as being home to a large musical and artistic heritage, is the country where the official headquarters of the African Union is located.

The duo formed by Munit & Jörg recovers traditional Ethiopian songs and adapts them to contemporary sounds. Their concerts will become unforgettable events. Munit's voice and Jörg's guitar are more than enough to thrill the public and create in each of their performances a feedback relationship with the audience.

Blick Bassy comes to the Canary Islands with a group made up by the best musicians and dancers of Cameroon to offer three concerts in the event by using their country's traditional rhythms.

As old as radically modern, Ethiocolor's proposal disseminates the strength of the music and dances of Ethiopia. The group represents its country's traditional styles in a precise, lively new way, using instruments such as the kirar (a type of zither), the washint (flute) and kebero (traditional drums). Dances which are as hypnotic as dramatic and that represent popular tales fill the stage with strength and beauty.

Manao is a group from the Canary Islands created by Ángel Vera and Pedro Díaz, two lovers of music from the islands who use their own compositions as a base, giving their own particular view to music from the Canary Islands by also making original changes to popular songs. This band is well known in Holland and other European cities where their compositions have taken them.
