"Cinematographies of Africa" reach the African Film Festival of Tarifa.

19/06/2011

Casa África presented under the African Film Festival of Tarifa (FCAT) framework the work Cinematographies of Africa. Un encuentro con sus protagonistas, a reference text written by Guadalupe Arensburg and edited by Casa África last year. The presentation took place last Friday at the Café Literario Misiana and the author together with Casa África's director general, Ricardo Martínez were present.

During the course of that afternoon, Martínez was also responsible for officially presenting a new line of publications called African notebooks, which hope to encourage constructive debate on current African topics and generate knowledge on Africa, by fundamentally using the voices of the continent's experts.

Cinematographies of Africa  is based on a series of interviews conducted on different African film-makers by its author. These interviews are also on a DVD attached to the book, and manage to make up a portrait of the variety and passion of the cinematographies that are thought about, produced and filmed in Africa.

The cinema and FCAT are the protagonists of the first African notebook, which analyses the relationship between the birth of the African cinema and the continent's independences and is the fruit of Casa África's collaboration with ONGD Al-Tarab and FCAT. Coordinated by Marion Berger and Sandra Maunac, this publication gathers the seminar's proposals Utopia and Reality. 50 years of African Independence? which was hosted in last year's FCAT edition.
